Snap Backs, Wild Wild West and Gladiators have secured a successful finished to the 2011 Thuringowa Touch Association Senior Competition after claiming the Premiers title in their respective divisions.
The first Final of the night saw Skipjacks and Gladiators battle it out for the Mixed-C title.
With scores locked at five-all for most of the second-half, Gladiators were able to cross on the full-time siren to prevent extra-time and claim the Mixed C division Grand Final, 6-5.
Referees for the Mixed-C Final were Shaun Francis and Jordan Bowman.
The Mixed-B division saw a similarly close affair as Wild Wild West managed to hold-out and ensure victory against a strong finish from the young On Fire side.
Behind by only one point at half-time, On Fire managed to even the scores midway through the second period. Not to be out-done, Wild Wild West managed two quick Touchdowns in succession to turn the game back in their favour.
Not out of the fight but with time rapidly running out, On Fire crossed to bring the game back to a one-point margin. It wasn't to be though as the clock expired before they had the chance to attack again, leaving the final score standing at 7-6 in favour of Wild Wild West.
Referees for the Mixed B Final were Chris Benstead and Jordan Bowman.
Finishing off the night, the Mixed-A division at 8:30 saw a mostly one-sided affair as Snap Backs capped-off an almost perfect season by defeating Gang Green.
Coming into the game on the back of an eight-game winning streak and a near-perfect eleven from twelve win/loss ratio, Snap Backs never looked like losing as they quickly ran away to a half-time lead of 4-0.
While Gang Green were able to cross several times in the second-half, Snap Backs attack proved to be too strong, managing to score another three Touchdowns, finally taking out the game and the Mixed A division with a final score of 7-3.
Referees for the Mixed A Final were Chris Benstead, Kerrod Hall and Denise Weier.
The Thuringowa Touch Association would like to congratulation the 2011 Premiers and say a big thank-you to all players and referees who took time out every Wednesday night to make this year such a success. We wish all members a Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year and look forward to seeing everyone back in 2012.
